5 Simple Ways to Stop Feeling Stuck in Life

1. Create a vision board

Vision boards are popular for a reason. They don’t only apply to the New Year — make it for the next quarter, month, or even week.

WHY CREATE A VISION BOARD?

To live a fulfilling life, you have to first lay out what it looks like for you. Creating a vision board will help you get excited about your life again. You’ll find motivation to get going on your goals.

WHAT IS A VISION BOARD?

A vision board shows what you want your life to look like in the future — all in one place. It includes pictures, quotes, ideas, goals, manifestations, symbols, hobbies… essentially anything you want.

You can make it your laptop, ipad, or phone background, or place it somewhere you’ll see everyday.

HOW TO MAKE A VISION BOARD

Digitally: gather photos (from Pinterest, Unsplash, or your camera roll) and use an editing app (I like Canva — there’s a free or paid version).

Physical board: Glue magazine/book cut outs to a poster board.

A vision board will pull you right out of your slump!

2. Plan something to look forward to every day

You may feel stuck because your routine is getting boring. So plan something every day that excites you.

EXAMPLE:

Monday: Listen to my favorite podcast

Tuesday: Personal training session

Wednesday: Health coach meeting

Thursday: Read James Clear’s 3-2-1 Email Newsletter

Friday: Pinterest board night

Saturday: Bowling with friends

Sunday: Reset for the week (meal prep, laundry, etc.)

MORE IDEAS

  • Upcoming album releases

  • New movies

  • Buy something you’ve been eyeing for a while

  • Go for a walk and get coffee

This may be just what you need to get you excited about life again.

3. Hobbies

Joy is a huge part of our well-being but you have to be intentional about it sometimes. Hobbies will always bring you joy — make time for them.

BENEFITS OF HOBBIES

  • You stay busy. You won’t have time to hold yourself back in a spiral of overthinking anymore because you’re focused on what’s in front of you.

  • Activate “rest and digest” so you aren’t so stressed. It’s okay to slow down.

  • Create solutions to what’s holding you back. The answers we seek often arise unexpectedly (when we aren’t looking for them). Like that time you were in the shower and came up with a good response for the argument you had earlier.

HOBBY IDEAS

(AND HOW TO ROMANTICIZE THEM)

  • Knitting/crocheting (while listening to music/podcasts or watching YouTube)

  • Painting (while listening to your favorite music)

  • Drawing (with a candle lit and watching a tutorial)

  • Scrapbooking (with your friends)

  • Playing sports (while drinking your favorite flavor of electrolytes)

  • Volunteering (at an event that’s meaningful to you)

  • Cooking/baking (something for your loved ones)

  • Coloring (in detail, while looking for inspiration on Pinterest)

4. Always have a project going

You’ll feel accomplished after completing a project, and excited to start the next one. This way you’re never bored with your routine.

PROJECT IDEAS

  • Puzzles

  • Crocheting

  • Read a book series

  • Create a savings plan for a house, car, bedding, etc.

5. Change your environment

Your environment includes things like your space, the people you surround yourself with, and the media you consume. Make sure your environment is up to your standards and aligns with the life you want to live.

HOW TO CHANGE UP YOUR ENVIRONMENT

  • Redecorate your house/space

  • Declutter (kitchen items, expired food, old clothes, etc.)

  • Intentionally surround yourself with people who support you and make you feel good

  • Consume media that makes you feel good and aligns with your desired life

Changing your environment essentially resets your life, which may be all you need to start moving forward!
